Inter.net Canada: Only Time Will Tell Real Impact of CRTC's VoIP Regulation

Montreal May 13, 2005 –Inter.net Canada Ltd., the best alternative to large telecommunications companies, says CRTC’s decision to regulate VoIP is flawed as far as cable companies are concerned and thus potentially insufficient to protect consumers.

“There are pros and cons to CRTC’s decision regarding VoIP regulation. This decision protects small VoIP providers such as Inter.net Canada and other small companies against telecommunications corporations, but fails to protect the market against cable companies,” commented Sophie Léger, Inter.net Canada’s president.

In what Léger describes as a “David vs. Goliath” battle over the Internet phone market, larger telecommunications and cable companies have the resources – and the will – to sell at loss, tie customers in with bundles and stifle competitors. While Inter.net Canada relies on consumers’ demand for superior and personal customer care, it would be greatly affected by unsustainable competition by large cable corporations.

“Meanwhile, Inter.net Canada keeps pursuing its goal to empower consumers and offer them a viable one-stop alternative when it comes to digital technologies with amazing service,” Léger adds.
